"It's got all the elements. It's a
great mountain to climb."
-- Lance Armstrong, 7 time Tour de France champion
Located just over the Tennessee state line into western North Carolina,
Beech Mountain is 'Eastern America's Highest Town' at 5,506 ft.
It was in this region of western North Carolina where Lance Armstrong
regained his passion for bike racing in 1998 and it was in climbing up
Beech Mountain that he rediscovered his form.
Beech Mountain was the showcase climb of the Tour DuPont, America's
premier road cycling event during the 1990's, and hosted stage finishes
from
1993-1996. It is ranked as a category 1 climb and is still
a top training destination for serious cycling
enthusiasts.
