At 5964 feet, Grandfather Mountain
is advertised as "the
highest peak in the Blue Ridge mountain range". In addition to its elevation, Grandfather
Mountain is a
globally recognized
nature preserve. Beyond beautiful
mountain scenery from its peak, the mountain offers
- a mile high swinging
bridge
- environmental
habitats for native wildlife including bears and eagles
- a nature museum,
restaurant and gift shop
- more than 12 miles of well maintained hiking trails
- over
100 picnic tables and grills throughout the park
Cyclist get to experience this
mountain each year during the legendary 100+ mile "Bridge to Bridge"
ride which finishes atop this famous
mountain.
